An Insight to Art and the History of Art

On Thursday 30th of January 2025, WILL welcomed him at St. John's Church, Devizes, for a fascinating talk on the subject of Georgian Britons' encounters with, and experiences of, cultures and artistic traditions from beyond Europe.

In his inimitable style, David gave a magisterial exposition of 25 paintings from that fertile period, combining great humour with his spectacular erudition as he took the audience deep into the intent and history behind each piece. The magnificent church proved a worthy venue for the projected exhibition of so many remarkable works of art.

David Evans MA. ex-master at Eton is also known for his work as a historian. He has collaborated with local artist Joanna May and children from Wansdyke, Southbroom, and Trinity schools to create an exhibit for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee at St Mary’s Church in Devizes.
